Ryder cup boost?

Possibly the greatest weekend that European Golf has experienced? I would say so. For those who were lucky enough to witness the most unlikely of comebacks by Team Europe it will live long in the memory. Written off by almost everyone Olazabal and his team turned the scoreboards blue on Sunday to once again bring the Ryder Cup back ‘home’ across the Atlantic. Team Europe and especially their Captain Jose Maria Olazabal have made no secret of their desire to win the Ryder Cup for the late great Seve Ballesteros or, in European terms, Mr Ryder Cup. Here at The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort, a course partly designed by Ballesteros, the Ryder Cup is always an extra special event on the golfing calendar due to the ties we have with the late Spanish Maestro. As a result of this we would like to congratulate Team Europe for what they have done for European Golf and lets hope that golf in this country, and in the rest of Europe, continues to prosper especially with the 2014 Ryder Cup landing just on our doorstep at the PGA Centenary Course, Gleneagles.
I hope that the triumph of the Ryder Cup will now flow down to clubs across the country as I am sure that in the weeks to come many golfers will be inspired by Team Europe’s heroic comeback to pick up the golf clubs that they had perhaps hidden away after one of the wettest summers Britain has experienced in many a year. Here at The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort we have at times suffered due to the weather but all credit must go to the Greenkeepers for keeping the course, and the greens in particular in good condition. Despite the season drawing quicker than I’m sure we’d all like to a close we would be delighted to welcome you to The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort for a bounce game with friends, or for a mini Ryder Cup.
We wish you the best of golfing luck in the coming weeks and months and look forward to welcoming you to The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort. To book a round of golf please visit www.QHotels.co.uk/bookgolf
Best wishes,

Summer at last?

As I sit here looking out over the Campsie Hills we have an unfamiliar view. That unfamiliar view, for which we have been hoping and praying for the last 2 months, is for the sun to be splitting the trees, for the sun and breeze to be drying out the golf course and putting smiles on the faces of the golfers desperate to play.

It has sadly been a long summer so far with torrential downpours, the perennial Scottish drizzle and long sleeved jumpers as opposed to the shorts and t-shirts we would all have been hoping for. Now however the course here at The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort is looking good. Lush, thanks to the moisture filled summer and now, finally, firm thanks to the sun.

So far in 2012 the greens have been a highlight, while not always lighting quick one can be assured of a steady roll to the very back of the cup every time, well perhaps every time is wishful thinking but golfers can dream.

To enhance the natural improvements we have been experiencing in the past few weeks we have now started a number of works aimed at improving the course for the present and in the longer term. These include drainage improvements for fairways and bunkers, filling in and re-turfing of damaged areas such as alongside the dog leg 5th hole and vertidraining the greens. We are aiming to have these works completed in the next week and cause the minimum amount of disruption to the golfer in the process.

While these works are undertaken I and the team here at The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort are praying the good weather stays and that this really is Summer At Last.

To book a round of golf at The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort please click here. Alternatively please email us on westerwoodgolf@QHotels.co.uk or call 01236 725 281 to contact one of the team or to find out more about our superb brand new six month golf membership.

We hope to see you at the course and happy golfing.

QHotels In Running For Top Leisure Industry Award

QHotels is in the running to retain its Best Medium Chain Leisure Clubs title for the second year running, for chains of 10 to 30 branches, in the Members’ Choice Health Club Awards 2012.

In addition, 12 of its leisure clubs have made the shortlist for their region in the awards scheme, the only one in the industry where winners are selected by members.
Now in its second year, the awards scheme asks members to rate the quality of facilities, customer service and value for money provided by clubs in an online questionnaire. Over 37,000 members voted in this year’s competition, which saw 12 out of 19 QHotels leisure clubs added to the shortlist.

Ashford International Hotel, The Cambridge Belfry, Chesford Grange, Crewe Hall, Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort, The Hampshire Court Hotel, The Park Royal, Tankersley Manor, Telford Hotel & Golf Resort, The Midland, The Nottingham Belfry and The Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort are the 12 shortlisted hotels.

Group Leisure and Spa Manager at QHotels, David Heap said: “Being named Best Medium Chain Leisure Club 2011 was a fantastic achievement for us. We’re continuously investing in our facilities and staff training in order to make our clubs the very best they can be, and we believe we have a real chance of winning this prestigious accolade once again, even against such stiff competition. What makes being shortisted extra special to us is that the awards are voted for by our members and its their opinion that’s most important of all.”

Managing Director at Health Club Awards, Simon Brown explains: “Only 180 clubs across the UK reached the shortlist stage of the competition and every single one of them should be extremely proud of that fact. There’s no better endorsement for a club than from the customers that are using the facilities on a regular basis, and that says a huge amount about the way these clubs are run.”

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 18 September 2012 at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham, as part of Leisure Industry Week 2012.

Brand new spa to open in Stratford-upon-Avon

It’s all systems go here at Stratford Manor as we gear up for the launch of our brand new spa!

We’ve spent £170,000 refurbishing our spa and leisure facilities, and let me tell you, the results are looking brilliant already. Ok, it is still a building site here, but things are really coming along and me and the whole team here at the hotel are really excited about our opening on 6th August.

Why did we do it? Well, because our customers asked us to. We’re constantly listening to feedback and acting upon it at QHotels, and this is just the latest example of that in action. As well as our leisure guests wanting a premium spa offering, our corporate guests have been demanding greater facilities on site. Corporate bookers are telling us that spa facilities are increasingly important to both business guests and residential conference delegates – it’s all about supporting a healthy approach to work. We think that our new spa facilities will help our guests to get the balance just right.

The new spa will include three new treatment rooms, one of which will be a dual room to cater for couples and will feature luxurious SpaFind products. In addition to the new spa area, the leisure facilities have been upgraded to include the latest Pulse Fitness gym equipment, a new poolside shower, reception and upgraded changing rooms.

We’ll keep you posted on how our opening day goes!

Taking in the beauty of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre

I had an amazing experience recently on an early January morning.  It was cold but bright, in Stratford-upon-Avon as I took a stroll down the river banks of the Avon.  The beauty of the scenery grabs hold of you and makes you stop.  Whilst stopping for a moment to feed the graceful, brilliant white swans my mind wondered off to take in and fully appreciate the design and grandeur of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in front of me.  I was hastily brought back to reality as a swan tried to take my finger as I fed them!  The theatre is magnificent in many ways and fills the town with a central focal point that continues to ensure the works of the grand master ‘Shakespeare’ live on.  Over the coming months Stratford-upon-Avon will wake up and warm up and tourists from round the world will come to see the history this marvellous town has to offer.  I love this time of year in Stratford and I have no doubt if you haven’t visited this part of the country yet that you too will love it.  Many people return time and time again as there is so much on offer in Stratford-upon-Avon.  To ensure your stay is complete with a touch of luxury The Stratford, a QHotel, offers many fantastic deals online and is only a short walk away from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.  Why not take advantage of booking your theatre break directly with The Stratford during July and August this year in support of the summer festival of Shakespeare.  I have no doubt you too will get lost in the moment as I did that January morning.  I am Annie Brown and  hope you will come and see us in Stratford this summer.

Working as a Spa Manager at the magical Crewe Hall

Christmas at Crewe Hall is a magically place to be, it will be my second Christmas here as a Spa Manager and I cannot wait for the winter wonderland to commence.

Crewe Hall is a grade II listed hotel full of hidden treasures, elaborate décor and exquisite marble. When you drive up the scenic drive you will already get the sense of the magic that awaits you, but imagine it everyday when you work here. WOW!

The spa and leisure club is the newest addition to the hotel and been here for 3 years which offers a wide range of treatments from your classic pedicures to get the Christmas party look started to the hot stone delights for the ultimate relaxation. We also offer state of the art gym equipment, classes to get your pulse racing and an 18 metre swimming pool. After your workout and dip in the pool why not come to the spa for some TLC and chill out in the relax room before heading off for some amazing food in the Brasserie to tickle your taste buds.

On our website you can take a sneaky peek at the treatments we have to offer which I know would not disappoint, however if there’s something on there that your unsure of or want to change slightly then fear not we are very versatile and will accommodate your needs. We use ESPA products at Crewe Hall. They have been chosen for the fabulous array of natural ingredients and effective qualities they offer. Don’t forget, you can carry on your experience and purchase ESPA products from the spa and take the magic home with you.

If all this isn’t enough then take a walk around the historic grounds where you will not be disappointed on the wonders it has to offer. I can ultimately say I am apart of the furniture here and never want to leave the delights it has to offer me everyday.

Its ‘hall’ you can ask for!

Limber up to shop till you drop

It may only be October but it’s never too early to start your Christmas shopping, and some people (myself included) don’t even need an excuse for a shopping trip! I was very excited about the opening of the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre and it had barely been open a matter of days before I just had to go and see what it had to offer. A mere 26 minutes from Ashford International station and I arrived at Stratford International. And as I made my way up the escalators the shopping centre was just on the right hand side.

I was blown away by its size; the largest shopping centre in Europe! It has beautiful walkways and large stores. The final wow factor is the Olympic Park that appears as you walk through the centre to the other side.

With this in mind we have created an accommodation package to include £30.00 worth of shopping vouchers at the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre, accommodation on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and a glass of champagne on arrival for that special touch. For those wishing to shop a little closer to home we also have this package available for the Ashford McArthur Glen Designer Outlet. Shopping breaks at Ashford International Hotel start from only £72.50 per guest per night and two nights start from only £60.00 per guest per night. We have recently introduced Garra Rufa Fish Pedicures so you can return from your shopping trip to have your feet ‘renewed’. If that’s not your cup of tea we still offer standard pedicures amongst many other relaxing spa treatments in our six treatment rooms.

So whether you are staying to shop till you drop or if you were lucky enough to get your hands on some Olympic tickets, the Ashford International Hotel is ideally located close enough to enjoy the hustle and bustle of London and the Olympics but still surrounded by peaceful countryside in the Garden of England.

I look forward to welcoming you to the Ashford International Hotel.

I continue to be impressed and excited about our produce at The Stratford and I am sure if you get the opportunity to visit you will too.

I am sure you will love it just as much as I do. The best thing is that as the north is snuggling up for the winter, it is still relatively warm here and you can still get out and about and enjoy the town.
